ULTRA on STRIKE!
When: Starting on Tuesday, Aug. 29th and lasting for 27 hours
What: All Resident Assistants (RAs) across the SMFA / Medford campuses will go on strike!
This means that they will:
Be on the picket lines
Participate in rallies
Communicate to residents about the strike and respond to their questions
Gather support from the student/faculty/staff population at Tufts as well as in Medford / Somerville
And they will not:
Assist with First-year move-in
Host welcome meetings / Facilitate Bridging the Herd
Check-in for duty
Respond to lock-outs
Meet with supervisors
Submit work orders
Write Incident Reports
Why:
Tufts administration continues to refuse a compensation plan with wages for RAs, despite many efforts at the bargaining table. We are striking as a last resort to get Tufts administration to pay attention and meet our demands.
Tufts administration has been uncooperative at the bargaining table and has threatened to retaliate against the student workers, threatening to fire them, replace them, and take away their housing.
The administration sent an email to the entire student body threatening retaliation against union members for engaging in their right to collective action. In response to this email, the union has filed an Unfair Labor Practice (ULP) charge with the NLRB.
